Integration of LED lighting in all vehicle classes

From being a basic function to support nighttime driving, traditional automotive lighting has evolved into a key distinguishing feature for automotive design. The driving force behind this development is the digitalization of light and the widespread use of LED technology, which exponentially increases the possibilities for new functionalities and performance. LEDs not only provide significant efficiency benefits and new design options, but also higher light quality for better visibility and comfort.

Through "LEDification," the technology is increasingly penetrating all car segments and regions. One disadvantage, however, is the high price of LEDs, particularly at a time when OEMs are facing great cost pressures. Innovative LED solutions have therefore mostly been limited to premium vehicles. To extend the tremendous advantages of the technology to entry level cars as well, cost-effective and standardized modules are in demand.

With the eXchangeable Light Engine, ams OSRAM Automotive Lighting Systems answers this challenge by making LED lighting available for all vehicle classes.

Flexibility through modular design

Thanks to highly-efficient development cycles and a scalable approach with three performance variants, the eXchangeable Light Engine is a particularly advanced product in terms of luminous flux, size and performance. In addition, the innovative modular design approach allows the solution to be used in different headlamp types – either in 2-, 3- or 4-reflector variants. The compact size contributes to even more flexibility.

The widespread use of LEDs not only offers significant efficiency benefits and design flexibility for OEMs as well as enhanced visibility for drivers, but also opportunities for the entire automotive lighting market. With the eXchangeable Light Engine, ams OSRAM AMLS aims to contribute to a new industry standard. The cost-efficient and standardized modules ensure accessibility of the technology to the entire market.

Bi-functional projector modules

Product description


The Bi-Functional projector B65R uses highly energy-efficient standard LED packages, with which static low beam and high beam light distribution can be generated. Two individual LED-boards are used to switch between the two beam patterns without the need of a mechanically movable shutter. 
The design of the projection lens can be easily adapted to the customer's specific requirements, enabling a customized and highly energy-efficient headlight system to be realized with standard LED modules.
A separately available LED driver module makes installation of the system in a customer-specific front headlight particularly easy, as it allows a more flexible installation position in the headlight. A protective circuit against reverse polarity/overvoltage as well as against excessive temperatures ensures that the module functions perfectly under all conditions.
While the B65R projector module is based on a segmented reflector as primary optics, the B91R is based on TIR primary optics, which enables particularly slim headlights.

    Silicone based Slim Projector and Adaptive Driving Beam Solutions


    Optics based on silicone technology offer maximum optical efficiency, thermal stability and compact dimensions. It is the material of choice for very slim headlamp designs and adaptive driving beam solutions (matrix light).
    Thanks to primary silicone lenses, our slim projector (SFL) and adaptive driving beam (SX2) solutions are particularly compact and durable, providing highly precise illumination of the road and maximum light output. Headlights equipped with our SFL and SX2 modules offer static and dynamic lighting functions. Advanced driving beam solutions are available with single- or double-row pixels. With the two-row SX2 and SFL base beam approach, low beam kink without shutter and dynamic AFS functions without stepper motor can be easily implemented.
